Technolgy Challenge Days

WHAT IS A TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGE DAY?

Yr5 & 6 pupils work in teams to complete challenges involving design, construction and testing of their outcomes. Children will experience:

solving a real problem working collectively as a teamdesigning and makingusing tools and equipment

WHAT DO YOU GET?

A whole or half day in school with all materials and equipment provided. You arrange the date and activity from the following projects:

STRUCTURESConstruct and test either: towers, domes, a 3 metre dia. Wheel (our version of ‘The London Eye’) or the island link (a bridge joining the Isle of Wight with the mainland).

AERO-DYNAMICSMake and test a model of the cab for a Channel Tunnel train.

MECHANISMS Use construction kits comprising of gears and pulleys to solve a lifting problem.

COST TO THE SCHOOL

£225 per day, including travel, for two, 2½ hour workshops.

We will need at least 4 adult helpers (one for every 8 children),

in addition to the class teacher to enable the workshop to go ahead
