Solar Workshop

WHAT IS “SOLAR”?

This workshop gives KS2 (Y4 - 6) children a chance to investigate solar cells and to discover how the energy they produce changes when different factors are varied. It also revises circuits.

Each child then uses a range of practical skills to make a zoetrope which they keep. The workshop can be done in the classroom

WHY DO IT IN OUR SCHOOL?

The aims of the team are to encourage the children to think seriously about renewable sources of energy and to use design and technology skills to make a hand-powered zoetrope, a device which demonstrates the principles of animation. The class is left with its own solar-powered zoetrope and a set of blanks on which to design their own animations.
