Who are STEM Ambassadors?
Anyone who has a desire to inspire children and youg people about STEM. Ambassadors are volunteers from a broad range of jobs and backgrounds who are passionate about inspiring young people to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies and careers. With a community of over 30,000 volunteers, they are an important and exciting, free of charge
resource for learners, teachers, youth and community groups and other individuals working with young people across the UK. The main qualities that all Ambassadors share are enthusiasm, commitment and a passion for what they do.
What do STEM Ambassadors do?
As professionals and specialists in their field, STEM Ambassadors bring real-life industry experience into context and enrich young people’s knowledge of the breadth of STEM-related careers and opportunities available. They get involved in a variety of activities both in and outside of the classroom, including STEM Club activities, speed networking, mentoring and large festivals and fairs, as well as helping with STEM resources or other forms of support. Evidence shows that 90% of young people who engage with STEM Ambassadors say that it increases their engagement with STEM, helping them to make informed decisions about their future careers.
What are the benefits of being a STEM Ambassador?
Becoming an Ambassador provides opportinities to gain a fresh perspective on day-to-day work whenseen through the eyes of sudents, enjoy a sense of achievement after delivering an activity and help to make a difference in the local community. Ambassadors achieve a better understanding of the educational system and the needs of young people, strengthen their communication, planning and presentation skills and hae lots of fun!
What are the benefits to Employers?
By encouraging employees to join the STEM Ambassadors Programme, employers contribute to the career development of their staff, increase their profile in the community, raise interest among future generations as potential employees in the sector and achieve a better understanding of the educational system. All Ambassadors receive a free enhanced DBS check.
4 STEPS TO BECOMING A STEM AMBASSADOR:
1. Register as a STEM Ambassador on www.stem.org.uk
3. Apply for your DBS clearance - an invitation to apply will be sent on completion of the induction.
4. Have your ID Verified either externally or by visiting SETPOINT Herts prior to appointment
