Looking to raise achievement through scientific enquiry? Development of enterprise? Re-motivation of students after SATS? Innovation in design and making? CREST gives experience of portfolio building plus it rewards work through a formal certification without an exam. Links with industry and higher education, arranged by the SETPOINT, ensure students explore real scientific, engineering and technological problems. The CREST Award is unique because it provides a work related dimension through mentors. The Award is available at three levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold), which equate broadly to KS3, KS4 and KS5. Recognised by DCSF, CREST Awards can be obtained through other schemes with the benefit of providing formal accreditation which is sought by industry and universities. CREST in a Day BRONZE Y7 upwards

Looking for a way to allow a large number of students, maybe an entire year group, to achieve a nationally recognised science and technology award? We have three ways in which your school can utilise a collapsed timetable day to enhance investigative, problem-solving and team-working skills and gain a Bronze CREST award. The three ways are:

•You and your colleagues devise, develop and deliver a day of practical activities, with SETPOINT Herts attending on the day in a supporting role. The activities may be entirely of your own design, or you may develop project ideas from the BA website (www.the-ba.net)

•An external organisation works with you to deliver a day of practical activities for your students, usually based around a theme, with SETPOINT Herts attending on the day in a supporting role. Currently BP and Three Valleys Water offer such activities.

•SETPOINT Herts can provide a carousel of practical activities with your students participating in each activity in rotation. You and your colleagues will be present to assess the work of your students and determine those eligible for a CREST award.

Whichever model you decide is right for you and your students, we will support and guide you through the planning process to ensure a successful outcome for the day. Date: You ChooseCost of Award:  £4 per student
