Robotics Workshop
WHAT IS “ROBOTICS”?
Unlike our other workshops, this involves one class (up to 36 pupils)
for a whole day.
The challenge for the day is a Search & Rescue Mission on Mars. The day gives small teams of pupils the chance to use Lego Mindstorms software to programme a robot they have built. At the end of the day each team has 2 minutes to demonstrate what their robot can do on the Challenge Mat.
This workshop will involve team working and communication, creative thinking, IT skills, design and make skills. Suitable for upper KS2 (Y5 & 6)

That day you came here, proved to be the highlight of the week for Year 6. One child actually was overheard saying that this had been THE BEST DAY AT SCHOOL, EVER.
I'm already looking forward to next year. Thanks for everything. Roo

I am writing to thank you for coming to Westbury School to present a Robolab Workshop.
I particularly enjoyed making the robot with my team members. Using the computer to give it directions was very interesting.
Thank you for all your help during the whole visit.

I am writing to thank you for the Robolab Workshop.
During the Robolab I learn't that designing, computerizing and technology can be very fun. It was fun learning how to build a robot out of Lego.
I particlary enjoyed downloading the directions onto the robot because you have to keep testing it on the mat.
Thank you for a fantastic day!
Your sincerely T Ashton

The teacher at Beechwood Park School, when asked her expectations of the day said -
"For the kids to have fun - they don't learn anything unless they are having fun."
Engineering Week At The Heathcote School
19th –24th June 2006
On Tuesday we took part in the ‘Mission To Mars’ Challenge organised by Setpoint. We all really enjoyed
the day, especially testing the robots. It has really helped us develop our designing and thinking skills.
The program for designing the robot was very helpful. There were a lot of choices to make and we only
found out if we had made the right one by testing and evaluating.
In a lot of cases we had to start over again, but help was at hand from engineers from MBDA as well as Setpoint so thanks to them.
The best part of the activity was that we had to overcome real life situations. Some of the challenges were hard to do such as wiping off the dust from a solar panel, but the others were quite easy such as flinging the ball up into “space”, and getting over the ledge into the crater. Taking the ice things out of the crater was one of the hardest things to do.

Roy and Beryl were brilliant with the LEGO Robotics. The students thought it was very entertaining too. In fact we are going to set up a team to take part in the First LEGO League!
“This activity was enjoyed by year 7, 8 and 9 pupils working together. It improved their programming, team and leadership skills whilst having fun at the same time. The activity was very well presented by Roy and Beryl. It was amazing what you can bring in a just a few boxes. Thank you for the time and effort involved bringing LEGO ROBOTICS to Stewards School.” Mrs Mary Tripp
“I thought LEGO Robotics was excellent as I love LEGO and programming things. I strongly
recommend this to other people.”Ashley Kilcare (8RP)
“I think LEGO Robots was really fun. It was interesting and was a challenge.” Jade Spowart
So thank you Sue for letting Roy and Beryl come to Stewards. A great time was had by all!
