NUFFIELD SCIENCE BURSARIES - FOR Y12 STUDENTS
Attention all science students in Y12! You could benefit from this prestigious scheme! It offers a fantastic ‘hands-on’ research experience for any student considering a science or technology career.
You will:
• Carry out scientific research work for four to six weeks during July and August 2009 at a top local industry or academic institution.
• Receive £75 a week to cover expenses.
• Are able to complete a CREST Gold Award, if appropriate.
• Are able to commence projects at the start of the summer holiday, or a week earlier with school permission.
In recent years, students have used their Nuffield projects to gain a number of prizes at the BA Science Fair, which runs annually in February. The Bursary also provides a fantastic opportunity for inclusion in your university application Personal Statement.

Every year, the Nuffield Foundation funds hundreds of school and university students across the UK, giving them the opportunity to carry out a research project over their summer holiday. If you have had one of our bursaries, and would like to meet others who have, then this group is for you!
At the Nuffield Foundation, we are always keen to keep in touch with our past bursars to find out how the experience affected them. So by joining this group you'll be able to get involved in some of our research to find out how we can best improve our schemes to make them as useful and enjoyable as possible for you, the students.
A quick word of warning - please do not give out your personal details on this site, and you may wish to amend your privacy settings so that your profile can only be seen by your friends, rather than everyone in this group.
And one last thing - please don't write anything offensive on this site. If you do have a problem then please sort this out with your supervisor directly, or email me on ssaunders@nuffieldfoundation.org
Attention! Enhancements have been made to the bursary website recently:
Firstly, there is now a 'Celebration Events' page on the site. This gives students a bit more information about what they can expect at a celebration event. It features a link to some examples of poster displays and also has suggestions for what could appear on their poster.

Also updated is the students page, which now has direct links to the BA CREST web site. There is also a section towards the bottom of this page about the bursary report with a download with some guidance notes about writing the report.

Citizenship through Science
Many of the items covered in the Citizenship National Curriculum have close links to the Science curriculum. The public's understanding of various topics such as obesity, immunization, radioactivity, recycling etc, are all key to being understanding what it means to be an active citizen.
These units have been devised by practising teachers, and we thank Amanda Llewellyn, Vasanthra Naicker, William Quaye, Elaine Stroud, Peter Campbell and Marianne Cutler for their input.

I'm pleased to report that the Nuffield Science bursary website has now been updated to include case-studies, quotes and photographs of students who took part in the scheme in Summer 2008.
