Band Rollers Workshop
WHAT IS “BAND ROLLERS”?
Band Rollers is a KS2 Science/Design and Technology practical
activity in which the pupils have the opportunity to investigate
the energy required to drive a simple toy and to use a range of
tools to construct it. The workshop is best done in the school hall
so the rollers can be raced and is most appropriate for Years 3 and 4
WHY DO IT IN OUR SCHOOL?
The aims of the Herts SETPOINT team are for your children to think about the potential energy that can be stored in an elastic band, its release and use to drive/ power a band roller. They are taken step by step through the stages in making the Band Roller, being encouraged to measure accurately and use the tools properly. Each child should succeed in making his or her own Roller (which he/she keeps) and there will be a fun race to end the session.

A whole day in school involving a 2 1/4 hour workshop for each of two classes, with all materials and equipment provided is offered at special prices, thanks to DTI sponsorship.
